January, 2009: Lightness. This was the first mix where I literally mixed the songs together, and a theme like this, darkness vs. light, it's a classic. There's no specific order in which I divided the dark or the light tracks, so it's a pure mixture.

Good Morning. A compilation of neat songs to wake up with, 'nough said. Its style goes hand in hand with the Lightness mix as well.

Duyster Mixtape I.
Have A Merry 1889!
Duyster is pretty much the best Belgian radioshow there is, 'cause it contains a magnificent collection of harsh vs. mellow music: instrumental post-rock, shoegaze, indietronica, alt-folk, drone, alt-country, slowcore, ambient, lo-fi, etc. A wonderful gathering of neat genres, in other words.
And in their last.fm group ocasionally occurs a mixtape trading. The theme for it in January back then was based on this steampunk-like illustration.
So I also started creating compilations there (although this mixtape doesn't contain transitions like my other mixes that month).

Mixtape #05.
February, 2009: Testamental. An inheritance mix, or in other words: which songs and artists did you inherit from your parents and which songs would you pass on to your children? An incredibly fun theme, since my parents have always been into a music, especially my dad. All sorts of influences come from that side, but mainly stuff from the late 60's, early 70's (psychedelic, progressive, experimental folk, hard rock and all sorts of jazz). But also the typical classic 80's tracks are to be included (Tears For Fears and all that jazz).
But what I would like to pass on to my own kids? I still don't know. If I ever have children, I'll let them figure it out themselves for the most part, I guess. So I gathered a couple of contemporary fun tracks I particularly still listen to a lot.

Mixtape #06.
March, 2009: P.P. 2 R.E.M.
That months theme was all about years. So, taking on a period of time, I quickly decided and compiled tracks for each year (that period being 1967-1987). The first half of this mix is very similar to Testamental, due to most of the inherited tracks being from the forementioned late 60's and early 70's, although this theme wasn't quite the same... so at the moment it didn't bother me lol.
